Stella's Fish Cafe

Casual seafood restaurant serving Gulf Coast favorites

  • Rooftop patio
  • Private parties
  • Corporate events

Stella's Fish Cafe & Prestige Oyster Bar is a casual seafood restaurant with the soul of a Low Country lunch counter. Offering super-fresh fish and oysters, along with Cajun and Creole specialties, Florida fried grouper sandwiches, Po' Boys, and Delta Dog Tater Tots, Stella serves Gulf Coast favorites in a setting that has all the elegance of a swamp-side fish camp.

Grab a seat at the oyster bar, pony up to the liquor bar or slip into a booth in either the downstairs or upstairs dining rooms. You can also book the kitchen table or head for the elevator and kick back on top of Stella's, featuring the city's most spectacular rooftop deck.

Editorial Review for Stella's Fish Cafe – by Melissa Sperl

In Short
There aren't many options for casual seafood in this landlocked state, but Stella's acts like there's an ocean just on the edge of Uptown. The food truly is down-home, with a hot Cajun slant. Choose your own sauce--from garlic butter to redneck reduction--and cooking method--from seared to grilled--for any fish dish (menu changes daily). Round out your meal with a side of jalapeno cornbread and Key lime pie for dessert.

My experience with Stella's was horrible. Me and my friend total a check of $130 and I got the worst dinner of my life. My sea bass came out not fully cook twice and it was the same piece of fish. By the time they did it right on the third trial, it was extremely dry. If I wanted raw fish, I would have gone sushi or sashimi. Our waitress asked me "is it worth the wait?" when I sink my teeth into the dry tasteless shrinking sea bass. I don't even know what kind of question was that. She spent most of her time talking to her friends at the next table. As I walked to the kitchen to talk to the manager, the gourmet chefs look like they were trained in taco stands. Don't get me wrong, with the right recipe and quality control, even a taco bell crew can cook up a tasty meal like Big Bowl. It's seems like Stellas' crews don't really take customer feedback well, more like "I hear you but I am not listening". The dessert portion is gigantic (which it shouldn't be) but taste like the lemon pie from cubs food. I have had better oysters from IOWA than Stella's, honestly! I have been eating seafood my whole life but none could compare to this high-price-bad-everything fish shack. The only good thing is there were a few good looking ladies in Stella's, I hope my experience with Stella's is an isolated case because I would hate to think that those gorgeous ladies don't have good taste ..... : )

Last night I went out to Stella's had fabulous Yukon Salmon, the freshest fish I've had. I went with 6 of my college friends from Seattle, WA. They were very impressed by the whole experience and thought the fish was better than it was in Seattle. Service has always been good and consistent. I do recommend Stella's for a casual night out and fun. Come early to sit on the rooftop - it's worth it!

Pros: Fresh Fish, Rooftop, Service

Cons: long wait for table on the patio

Diners buzz about this Uptown cafe's impressive roof deck; but there's something to be said for the seafood, too.  See the full editorial review.
