Editorial Review for William Sauntry Mansion – by Gayot.com

The Scene
This 1890 Queen Anne- and Eastlake-style mansion once belonged to a lumber baron--thus its name. Among its many treasures are 10 fireplaces, numerous stained-glass windows and a painted canvas ceiling. The floors are made of elaborate parquet, the chandeliers are original and the woodwork showcases cherry and oak. With its wrap-around porch and gingerbread architecture, the exterior is equally picturesque.

The Details
All of the accommodations are delightful, but kindlers of romance should check into the Ellen or Madam LaFuegy rooms, which have double whirlpools, fireplaces and exotic beds. All of the rooms include private baths, although two are located down the hall. Morning coffee service begins at 8am, followed by a full gourmet breakfast at 9am.

We recently stayed at the William Sauntry Mansion when attending a wedding in Stillwater. We had problems right away when booking our room. I booked in 5 months in advance and when I called to confirm my reservations, Tom didn't seem to have any idea who I was...even though I had emails to confirm our communication. Reluctantly we signed up AGAIN for a room. When we arrived to check in, our room had been given to another couple staying there- even though OUR credit card info was holding it for us. Tom was flippant about the ordeal and offered us a different room that cost $50 MORE. I don't care how great the breakfast is or how spectacular the home is, if a B&B owner doesn't treat his guests with respect, he's running a pretty crappy business. We will not be staying there in the future and we will direct our friends elsewhere.

Pros: good breakfast, beautiful home and wrap around deck

Cons: SERVICE, Owner Tom

This place is absolutely gorgeous! We stayed in the Joseph room. My fiancee and I had just been engaged that morning, and this place capped off an amazing day. The swedish shower and the double jacuzzi tub were the highlights. After enjoying both of them, we were completely relaxed! The breakfast was amazing...omelette with gouda cheese and sun dried tomatoes...fresh oj...fresh sliced grapefruit...orange pecan scones...and flourless chocolate cake. We definitely recommend this place!

Pros: Decorative Room, Great Shower and Jacuzzi

Cons: Expensive, Uncomfortable Bed
