Editorial Review for Cathedral of St. Paul – by Greg Giles
The Background
Whatever your faith, when you stand inside the 300-foot-tall dome, you will be awed by the breathtaking beauty. In 1915, Archbishop John Ireland wanted to build a "great cathedral" on the highest point in downtown St. Paul. He also supposedly ordered builders to make the spire one foot higher than the nearby Capitol, gaining a symbolic edge in the "church vs. State" contest. Any time a building takes more than 50 years to complete, the results will likely be stunning.
Facts
The cathedral dome is an important landmark of the city, lending St. Paul a European feel that Minneapolis can only envy. And, of course, it is the working headquarters of the Archdiocese and has a congregation of more than 2,500. It also hosts choral and orchestral concerts for adults and children.

This a beautiful catholic church. Massive for those that haven't seen many. Lots of marble! Tours are available only during certain days/times. The tour guide was very knowledgable and yet didn't pressure everyone to the catholic faith. She was very good and knew the whole history. You can take pictures if you want. Great view of the capitol from the steps of the cathedral.
Pros: Informative tour! Beautiful architecture!
Cons: None
